Insurance companies with live chat
Need to change a policy, chase a claim or ask about a renewal without waiting on hold? Here’s which UK insurance companies let you do it by live chat or messaging, when it’s open, and whether you’ll need to log in first. Every entry is checked by hand on the insurer’s official site, and if we can’t see it, we say so.

“Not yet confirmed” means the official site doesn’t show live chat without logging in, or we only saw a virtual assistant. We never guess. Spotted a change? Tell us
Best for
Getting help from an insurer by live chat
- Log in first. Several insurers only offer chat inside your online account or app, including AXA, Legal & General and RAC. Logging in first also skips the security questions.
- Have your policy number ready. You’ll be asked for it straight away.
- Ask for a person. If a virtual assistant answers, type “speak to an adviser”. Our table marks insurers whose chat starts with a bot.
- Save the transcript. Download or screenshot the chat before you close it. You’ll want it if you need to complain.
- Know your complaint rights. If your insurer doesn’t sort out a complaint within 8 weeks, you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free.
How we check
We visit each company’s official help or contact page and record only what it shows: whether live chat exists, the hours, and where the button is. Anything we can’t see is marked “not yet confirmed”. We re-check every company in this guide each month.
Questions people ask
Which insurance companies have live chat?
See the table above. It shows every insurer we’ve checked, whether live chat is confirmed, and when it’s open.
Do I need to log in to chat with my insurer?
Often, yes. Some insurers, such as AXA, Legal & General and RAC, only offer chat inside your online account or app. Our table marks these ‘Login needed’.
Is the chat a real person or a bot?
It depends on the insurer. Many, including Aviva, Direct Line and Churchill, start with a virtual assistant. Where we’ve only seen a bot, we mark the insurer ‘Not yet confirmed’.
How do I complain about my insurer?
Complain to the insurer first and ask for it to be logged. If it isn’t sorted within 8 weeks, or you’re unhappy with its final response, you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free.
